2. Data Sovereignty & Minimization

We believe in high-agency privacy. Honest Stake operates on a "blind" protocol regarding your private life:

  • No Contacts or Microphone: We do not request access to your contacts or microphone.
  • Limited Media Access: We only access your camera or photo library if you choose AI Proof and submit photo evidence.
  • No Monitoring: We do not track your messages, keystrokes, or browsing history.
  • Binary Enforcement: Our system only requires the data point of your commitment success or failure to function.

3. Information We Collect

Account Information

  • Email address (used for secure authentication and service notifications)
  • Account standing and authorized payment methods
  • Device information and IP address for security monitoring and fraud prevention

Performance & Enforcement Data

  • Commitment details (authorized stakes, timelines, and goals)
  • Check-in records (success or failure status verified by our system)
  • Health metrics you authorize for auto-verification (e.g., steps, sleep, workouts) and derived values shown in your history
  • Timezone information for deadline precision
  • Transaction history for enforcement service fees

Friend Verification Data

  • Friend name and email you provide for verification requests (used only to send verification emails)

Health & Proof Data

  • Apple Health metrics you authorize (e.g., steps, sleep) for auto-verification
  • Photo evidence you submit for AI verification and its verification outcomes

Payment Information

  • Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe, Inc.
  • We do not store or see your full credit card details on our servers
  • We only retain 'Payment Method IDs' (tokens) to trigger authorized enforcement charges

4. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain the Honest Stake accountability service
  • To calculate commitment outcomes and process authorized service fees
  • To verify commitments using Apple Health data or AI proof you submit
  • To send friend verification requests if you choose Friend Verify
  • To send you deadline reminders and status updates
  • To prevent chargeback fraud and enforce our Terms of Service
  • To comply with legal obligations

5. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

  • All data transmitted over HTTPS encryption
  • Payment data processed via PCI-compliant Stripe infrastructure
  • Strict database access controls and system monitoring
  • Auth-protected server-side logic for verification

6. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain your data as long as your account is active to provide performance tracking. Photo evidence submitted for AI verification is stored in private storage until verification completes; verified proof is deleted after verification, while rejected attempts may be retained to support retries and are removed upon account deletion. You can request account deletion in the app or by contacting us.

8. Third-Party Services

We use trusted infrastructure to deliver our enforcement engine:

  • Stripe, Inc.: PCI-compliant payment processing
  • Supabase: Encrypted data storage and compute
  • Vercel: Service hosting and distribution
  • Apple: HealthKit (if enabled) and APNs for notifications
  • RevenueCat: Subscription management
  • Google (Gemini): AI photo analysis for AI Proof

Each provider operates under its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.

9. Children's Privacy

Honest Stake is intended for users 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect data from individuals under 18.

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our service. Significant updates will be communicated via the app or email.
